Day 1 - Group Assignment#

For this homework assignment, you will be collaborating with the rest of the class on a group repository.

Follow the instructions in the GitHub Collaboration lesson for contributing to a repository using an element you choose. Make sure that you claim your element using a GitHub Issue before making your pull request.

Review Checklist#

When reviewing a classmate’s pull request, verify they:

  • [ ] Created the file in the correct elements/ directory

  • [ ] Used proper file naming: element_name.md (lowercase)

  • [ ] Included the required page header with layout: page and title:

  • [ ] Added at least 3 sentences of information about their element

  • [ ] Used clear, descriptive commit messages

Leave specific, constructive feedback. If changes are needed, request changes and explain what should be improved.

bCourses Submissions#

You must submit to two separate assignments on bCourses:

Assignment 1: Your Pull Request#

  • Submit the URL of the pull request you created for your element

  • Example: https://github.com/msse-chem-280-2025/periodic-table/pull/123

Assignment 2: Your Pull Request Review#

  • Submit the URL of the pull request you reviewed (a classmate’s PR)

  • This should be a PR where you left review comments

  • Example: https://github.com/msse-chem-280-2025/periodic-table/pull/456

Note: Your pull request does not need to be merged before you submit the URL on bCourses, but should be merged by tomorrow’s class.

Group Assignment 1 Rubric#

This assignment is worth 5% of your grade and will be graded out of 5 points.

  • Adds at least three sentences about element.

  • 1.5 points
  • 1.5 points

Submission

  • Submitted on time, in correct location with no extra files in final pull request.
  • Descriptive commit messages and pull request description.
